Preparatory Music, Inc.

Long associated with Brenau University, Preparatory Music started in the early part of the 20th century. Eliza Holmes Feldmann, Brenau artist-in-residence, was one of the early founders of this organization. Preparatory Music has, for many decades, offered the people of Gainesville and the greater North Georgia area an outstanding pre-college and adult music education.

In 1974, Priscilla Jefcoat re-organized the program and served as its director until 1982. During the remainder of the 1980s, David Reesman and Beth Lawrence were the directors of the program respectively. In 1992, Keith Jefcoat was named director and holds the position to present day.

The K-12 and Adult music school became Preparatory Music, Inc. in September, 2002. Currently the music school offers classes in music theory and private lessons in piano, voice, harp, violin, viola, cello and flute. Preparatory Music, Inc. enjoys a wonderful heritage and a fine reputation of musical excellence. Its teachers are among the finest in the state with all ten holding a master’s degree and two holding doctorates in music.
